They're some of the most _lively_ Egyptian art I've seen-- I think there's a real stereotype of Egyptian art as sideways people in unnatural poses, totally stylized and very formal. These paintings are less stiff-- you get the idea that Nebamun was a person who enjoyed life, rather than just a name attached to an iconic representation of a person, if you see what I mean. So what's going on with the two musicians represented face-on? That's really unusual, isn't it? We're heading back for a more full day at the British Museum in the next day or two (Monday if it snows lots Monday, otherwise Tuesday, when it's also supposed to snow like crazy) and I'll walk through there again. It's a wonderful exhibit, and I'm glad it was open in time for our visit. Ah, it was fantastic.
